The days when your music collection necessitated a wall of CDs or LPs are long since passed. Today, a very large music collection can be held in your hand, carried in your pocket and taken just about anywhere you plan to be. Among the various processes that are a part of this new world, however, is the need to be able to transfer music from iPod to iTunes with as little complexity as possible. This requires software, in some cases, which largely automates the process and allows you to walk away from the computer while much of the work is being done.
This process becomes complex not because of the technology involved but, primarily, because of the organization requirement. In order for this to work to the best effect, the user needs to make sure that the files transferred to the computer are in the same arrangement as they’re found on the iPod. When you transfer music from iPod to iTunes, the entire point is lost if you end up with a mess of images, music files and other data. Ideally, you should find the same things on your computer as you do on your iPod, and in the same order.
You can transfer music from iPod to iTunes on just about any computer. Make certain, however, that you’re not violating any workplace policies before doing so on a computer owned by your employer. While ever-larger hard drives and faster computers have made storing music on any computer a relatively resource non-intensive affair, there are still some employers who may object. You’ll have to have the iTunes software installed on every computer to which you wish to transfer your files for the type of software discussed to function correctly and to duplicate the contents of your player.
